Against the Crowd

Have you read any books that other people find didn’t like but you just loved? If so, what was it and why did you like it so much? Why do you think other people did not like it?

I really enjoyed the book Last Dance. I know some other kids who enjoyed it as well, but I don't think many kids would like it because they may not understand it. It is about the NCAAM Final Four and what goes on there. If a kid doesn't like sports, they probably would't like this book.

I read the book monster and thought it was really good. I liked how it was written as a movie, and it told you the back round of the scenes for example it tells the camera motions. After I read the book some of my friends read it and said they did not like it because it was a book written as movie.

I really enjoyed reading the book Wanted by Caroline B. Cooney. It was a great mystery story and I could barely put it down. I love mystery books because I like to extrapolate to find out how they book will end. The suspense always makes me want to read more. However, my friends do not enjoy these books because they think that they are too scary and that it will give them bad dreams if they read it before they go to bed. I can understand where they are coming from, but half of the time these stories aren't true, but you never know :]

One series that so many people like was the “Uglies” series by Scott Westerfeld. Everybody said it was a great book. I though the first one was a really good book (Uglies), but I did not like the second one (Pretties). I got halfway through the book and I couldn’t finish it because it got boring. There was action in the beginning and I think there was action in the end, but in the middle there was no suspense I just lost interest. It was also hard for me to understand because I was not enjoying it. Other people said they could not put it down but I definitely could!

Starting in 6th grade, I read the Crank, Burned, Glass and Impulse series by Ellen Hopkins. I have recently finished reading two of the books and am looking forward to another new release in august. I really enjoy these books because they are written in poetry and have situations that people can relate to/have friends that relate to it. The books are "intense" and more adult material, so a lot of people don't really like the books, also because of its poetry. Most people first view it as weird, but I think they are really amazing books!

One book that I really liked, The Stand was hated by my brother. It had a lot of detail and character development which I liked. However, my brother didn’t like how the book didn’t really have a message and was only written for entertainment. Also I liked it because the style it was written in was very interesting. Also, another reason my brother didn’t like the book is because it was 1100+ pages but he didn’t like the ending. In conclusion, I still think The Stand is a great book.
