The water is a symbol of the first word that Hellen said to her Mother. This word is repeated to her when she is at the watering well. She is told by sign language that she is getting the water. This is also the first word that she remembers and acknowledges that it is a word. The cool thing is that she would say water to her mother by saying wawer. Now she says water and realizes that water is water. The first word she recognized.

"Symbolism in the Miracle Worker"

The water is a symbol in the miracle worker because when Annie was talking to Helen's mother, she said that Helen had little backround knowledge, but was intelligent as a child. Kate included that Helen used to say "Wahwah" for water, and knew what water was. Later on in Act III, Annie puts Helens hand under the water well. Helen remembers that she knew what water/"wahwah" or "wawer" was,and she is able to say water in sign language. I think that symbolizes because it was something that Helen remembers and used to help herself learn. I think that's pretty rad since she is learning even though she's blind, deaf, and can't really talk.

Water is a symbol in the story because in the end of the book the word “water” opens up her whole world. In the beginning of the book Kate tells Annie about her past and she mentions that Helens first word as a baby was “wahwah” which was water. Then at the end of the book when they were by the water pump that “wahwah” comes back to her and she figures out that everything has a name.

Water is a symbol in the story that means a lot. It is for Helen and the Keller family...a miracle. Water is the first thing that Helen said and understood. She of course didn't just say water, but wah-wah. It was a step closer to communication. This showed everyone that Helen could understand and was smart.

i think that the water oump was a symbol becuase of many reasons. one reason is that Kate says that Helen's first "word" when she was a baby was 'wah-wah.' Then at the end of the story, Helen learns how to speak again by saying 'wah-wah' meaning water. Her knolage comes back to her. Also in the middle of the story, Helen hides the key to Annie's room in the water pump. This shows that the water pump is a place tjhat Helen knows of.
