A poetry book I have read is BRonx Masquerade. In this book there are a bunch of really sad,upset people who's English teacher is trying to make them write poems. Everyone takes out there sadness in these poems. The theme is probably People can learn and become happier more content people through writing. If that is a theme. I think that is the main idea of the story.
I read Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein and the theme is a comical one. Most of his poems are funny and they have a picture to go along with them. Stephen D.
I have recently read a book called "Hooray for Diffendoofer Day" by Dr.Seuss. The theme is how these kids love their school, but they must ace a quiz or their school will be torn down. However, most of the poems in this book are Seuss classics.
I read the poetry book, LOVE THAT DOG. This was a short book made up of only poems and it tells a story about a young boy's life at school. They talk about how he is embarassed when the teacher hangs his poems up in the classroom so he has her keep his name off. Then, kids read them and enjoy his poems so he starts allowing his name to go up. It is about how he loves writing poetry and even meets a poet. This book is really short, but it was pretty good. -ALIM.-
Edgar Allan Poe wrote many poems all based upon the same thing. The theme of almost all of his poems are sadness and loss. I believe he writes sad poems because he lost someone or many very dear to him and expresses his feelings by writing poetry.
I read a poem book that had all things to do with water and oceans. I think that it was interesting how the author described some things. Like an iceberg being a glacier’s child, etc. The theme was simple, nothing to whoa! The theme was easy to go by, it was a book I think that a lot of people should read because of the detail and that all the poems could be humorous and have a good flow to them.
I have also read Bronx Masquerade by Nikki Grimes. In this book the students are forced to write poetry for a Friday night poetry reading where they end up writing about themselves and their problems/feelings. In the end, everyone learns about eachother and wants to write more poetry. I think that the theme of Bronx Masquerade is that people express their feelings in different ways and in this book they express it in poetry.
I read a poem called 'The Marvelous Homework and Housework Machine' written by Kenn Nesbitt. The theme of this poem is humorous. It is about a machine that he invented in his imagination that does every chore for you while you sit back and relax! The choice of words he uses also help make the poem comical. This is an overall funny poem that I suggest people read if they are looking for something amusing!
I am reading a book called Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. The main theme so far is you can't judge a book by its cover. Many girls at school think the Cullen family is very strange and no one hangs out with them. When Bella moves to town she starts to uncover the secrets of the Cullen family, and learns not to judge someone on what they look like.
I also read "Love That Dog" by Sharon Creech. It was a quick book about a little boy who didn't think he could write poetry. He keeps trying his best, and eventually, he writes some pretty intense poems. I think a theme in this book is never say you can't do something. Just keep trying and you will succeed.

I read the poetry book called "The Umbrella Man" by, Roald Dahl. I think the universal theme of this book is to make you think about the ways of people in different ways. It helps you say the funny ways of the human mind and what crazy things people come up with and do. I think this is the main idea of this book

Ellen Hopkins writes poem books based on experiences she/people she knows have seen. All of the books have sad, problemed young people in them. The themes are mainly related to drugs or some sort of depression, and how the characters deal with these problems. I think that it gets people aware of what could happen to them if they go through these events. TaraO
